Block Blast! is a mobile game puzzle by HungryStudio, which features the elements of classic block puzzles and jigsaw-like mechanics. The game is based on an 8x8 grid upon which three block pieces are presented to the player at any given moment. The blocks must be logically fitted onto the grid in a way that they form a complete row or column, which, upon clearing, rewards the player with points. As the game progresses, the difficulty level also rises as larger and more complex block shapes come into action, which require planning and strategy.

The other aspect of Block Blast! is that it has two modes: Classic Block Puzzle and Block Adventure Mode. The Classic mode is straightforward in its aim—to fit blocks to eliminate rows and columns, with a view to achieving maximum points. The Adventure mode introduces a storyline element, however, wherein the players embark on a quest across various worlds, collecting items like diamonds and gold that are placed within the blocks. This provides depth to the game, with varied goals and missions apart from the typical score-grinding mechanics.

The game is also designed to be non-stressful and accessible. It is very simple to play, kids or adults can play the game by dragging blocks together. Because time limits do not exist in this game, it is played more leisurely and there is no pressure to move quickly. The game is even accessible offline, and individuals can just pick up and leave.

Graphically, Block Blast! is just as colorful and interactive. The ornate block patterns, supported by smooth animation and harmonious sound effects, provide excellent gaming. The game further offers combo rewards for clearing more than one line simultaneously, and rewarding visual and audio cues that enhance the experience.

The game also has its downsides. Many players have pointed out that there are too many advertisements as a major flaw. Even though it’s available to everyone and play, ads are shown very regularly and they may appear both between games and while you’re in the menu screen. While some of the advertisements provide rewards or allow for continuation of a game after losing, too many take away from the quality of the game experience.

It is also a problem that users cannot change the order of the blocks in the layout. Unlike similar puzzle games, you cannot rotate the pieces in Block Blast!, so you might sometimes finish with no legal place to put the remaining block, leading to a game loss. This decision adds to the challenge but also has the potential to be infuriating for other players.
